2020 heralds the dawn of a new era. As technology permeates into every nook of our lives, we inevitably become digital slaves and expect everything to be “smart”. The constant call for attention from tech devices also places a mental strain on one’s emotional well-being.
Being in a tech role, the issue becomes all the more pertinent. Glowing screens abound, our eyes remain glued to devices all day round. The only probable time of the day that’s free of tech distractions is during one’s slumber, but even that once-sacred territory is fast being invaded by sleep trackers nowadays.
Hence, my 2020 new year’s resolution will be to cut out as many as digital devices from my life whenever possible especially off-work. And that means taking one small step at a time like switching my phone to airplane mode during the weekends. But well, my TV at home just literally died as I was finishing up this post, so maybe that’s a sign that I’m off to a great start.
