Since I’ve started working, I haven’t exactly taken an extended break when I wasn’t overseas for most part of it. While being on vacation means not being at work, it brings with it its own set of worries. Travel-induced stress can include figuring out how to get to places, possible communication barriers or even just staying safe, all in a foreign environment. And whenever I get back from a nice getaway, I inevitably suffer post-holiday blues for a while.
These past 2 weeks that I have been on leave, I was in Singapore throughout for the first time. I get the time to ruminate about life without having to worry about having to spend the night on the streets because my Airbnb host bailed on me. Though being physically accessible also meant work can creep into personal time; as much as I tried to keep work away, it’s not as easy to shut myself out as compared to if I were overseas.
To be honest, I haven’t accomplished much this break. Mostly, I ran a few personal errands that I’ve put off for a long time. While I wanted to get some work done too, I decided not to as I didn’t want to make to feel like I’m working from home instead of being on leave. I also had time to think about what I want to achieve next year even though it’s still a month away, but it’s never too early for new year resolutions right?
