I think I have found my calling in life, and it’s all thanks to the time I have on hand to explore what interests me. In my last 5 years, what I’ve enjoyed doing most is the conceptualization and development of solutions. This shouldn’t come as anything new though as I have dabbled and hacked together home-brewed solutions since secondary school days.
Like most men, I’m a problem-solver by nature but I didn’t turn to engineering as I’m inept with handicraft and technical work. So what better way to do what I love by solving business problems instead. I may not have dexterous fingers but I do have an analytical mind and logical reasoning which are helpful in visualizing problems and solutions.
That said, I’ve consciously avoided making something I’m passionate about become regular work because I’m afraid I’d lose my love for it one day. Some have asked me to venture out on my own since the consultancy work is the biggest money-spinner in the entire process, but for now I prefer to own the whole value stream to learn as much as I can. Moreover, I still derive the greatest sense of satisfaction from the actual creation process.
