10 years have gone and I’ve religiously documented every month of the past decade on these pages. What started out as a blog to relieve boredom and keep my writing polished spiralled into an autobiography. Entries in the first couple of months came fast and furious as I was fervent about penning down every detail. But over the years, that has trickled down to sporadic posting as life priorities take over though I still discipline myself to write at least once every month.
From a full-time National Serviceman serving the country to a studious university student and finally a corporate pencil-pusher, nothing very much about myself has changed in the 10 years that have gone by. Perhaps with age and experience, I’ve become a little more cynical and less compelled to be an affable person aiming to please everyone else, but deep down, I’m still my old, reserved self who prefers small groups to large crowds.
In 2007, I was barely 20; today, I’m approaching the big 3-0. Friends have gotten married, became parents, switched jobs, bought cars, purchased homes – all milestones I have yet to achieve. I’m not envious though as these come with their own set of challenges and a life well-lived doesn’t mean that I have to reach these milestones by a certain age. So, I’m gonna stick to what I’m doing now, let life unfolds as it comes and keep writing on to the next decade.
