Celebrate nothingness

[]

It’s my birthday today but as most would know, I don’t really have much regard for special occasions like this. It was kinda nice celebrating occasions like birthdays, new years, etc. when I was a kid though as you grow up, these commemorations become insignificant in the bigger scheme of things.

Call me a pragmatic bloke but birthdays are really and honestly just another date on the calendar. Some may see huge symbolism in elevating these occasions to greatness as a reminder of better times, but I couldn’t care less; at the very most, it’s just a day to mark that I’m a year older and wiser.

It’s likely that this view on life was formed as a part of my upbringing – pragmatism and practicality are ideals that my family hold dear to our hearts. And it’s with this belief that shape how I regard these occasions as non-events and how celebrating them yields little value, except perhaps one of transient happiness.
