Disappearance

[]

I’ve wrote at lengths about transient friends but some recent events put this into the spotlight again. I’ve lost contact with a close friend of mine for a couple of months and he has been unresponsive despite our efforts to reach him. And yesterday, yet another left for a long-term overseas work stint.

Of course, we’ll all probably meet again one day because we are pretty tight but until then, my social circle has once again shrank. In each phase of life, there’s always a core group of friends who’ll form one’s inner circle though as with all uncertainties in life, even the closest will drift apart when other priorities take precedence.

It’s nice to disappear off the radar once in a while; be a recluse free of worldly influences. But to vanish without a trace, that’s a worrying thought. Perhaps I’ve reached that watershed age where losing friends becomes another fact of life or I’m overthinking life.
