It’s that time of the year again when you look back at the year and reflect on what you’ve done (or not done), then think about how you can do better for the year ahead. In 2009, I summarized the year in 60 seconds and this year, I’ll try to keep it short again. So, here goes…
Looking back, the first half of the year does seem to be a blur. What I do remember though are Mondays’ nasi lemak and Fridays frequently spent planning and working on projects in the school library. Oh yes, and then there’s this critical thinking module which I seem not to have an affinity with. People used to say that you can’t fail a university test if you actually studied for it. Well, guess that isn’t true. (Thankfully I passed that module.)
In non-academic areas, I had the chance to make participants swim through underwater hoops during an adventure race that almost ended prematurely. Then there were also long-drawn (read: unproductive) planning sessions, radical changes on the fly, sore butts, wet feet in the lead-up to an orientation camp. But once it started, it was 3 days of fun, sunshine and a glowing report card at the end of it all.
During summer break, I also went on my first strictly-leisure overseas trip to Taipei. Gloomy skies and persistent rain threatened to spoil the trip but accompaniment of friends lifted the mood even if only slightly. (Note to self: Don’t travel to Taiwan in early June again.) Back home, I had to spent some time back in green and in the jungles of Tekong. It was a good break from school life and all that, but more importantly, a chance to catch up on old times with buddies from my NS days.
Time flies when you’re having fun, and life as a sophomore soon began. Workload undoubtedly became heavier than ever. The semester also marked the first that I had to put in an all-nighter and also working on a project that appeared uncertain and ambiguous even after completed. But fortunately, the term ended quickly and the results certainly weren’t disappointing either.
While I look to end 2010 on a high note with a smorgasbord of meet-ups planned for the remaining week or thereabout, I wouldn’t say that the year has been as perfect as I’d have like it to be. I had my shares of ups and downs, but honestly, who doesn’t? Though in all fairness, this year has been really great to me. So, here’s to another awesome year ahead!
