Taking life for granted

[]

In a blink of an eye, 2 months had flew by. 2 months ago, I was only a couple of days away from my first plane ride. Imagine the anxiety! There was also the long duration of the trip to worry about. What made things worse was that the second overseas trip followed closely days after the first one. So effectively, I wasn’t really in Singapore for the past 2 months.

Being overseas is really an experience you can’t buy. You’ll learn how to live independently and realize how often we take for granted the comfort that we enjoy in Singapore. Living conditions were barely passable. Water and electricity were not givens. Even the weather isn’t that kind to begin with. You’ll understand the hardship that these people have to go through but we’ll probably never empathize with their state of living.

Yes, training was tough but nothing can beat the destituteness there. We were only around for a few weeks but those people have to stay there for their entire life. Put yourself in their shoes for a day, and you’ll probably find the earliest chance to take them off. You really got to admire them. Respect. We’re just too absorbed in our own world.
