Welcome to the newcomers

[]

While we were in Thailand for the commandos’ evaluation, we got news that a new batch of trainees have been inducted into training wing. It all seemed like yesterday when we ourselves were in their shoes. Fresh out of BMT, most of us were clueless as to what unit life was like. As recruits, we were excused from many mistakes as we were perceived to be ignorant. But being trainees sunk morales to an all-time low.

As trainees, you’ll find many privileges that you have always taken for granted being stripped away. You’ll no longer be the blur recruit that gets away with leaving your rifle lying around. Every small mistake will be magnified to reflect its seriousness. The first 3 months in training wing will probably be living hell, especially if the trainees are too used to the sheltered life they’ve been enjoying in Tekong.

But looking back, it really wasn’t that bad. No doubt the first week would be the worst as you’ll still be trying to adapt to the training style. And safe to say, the new batch wouldn’t have to undergo CSB fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it. 3 months is a short time. Bear with it and a slightly better life awaits in main body.
